![]() Curriculum THE BWS MAJOR consists of the Introduction to Black World Studies (BWS 105), Seminar in Black World Studies (BWS 400.1) and eight courses selected from among three categories. From Category I: Africa, one course. From Category II: African-American, three courses. From Category III: Electives, four courses needed to complete the major. Electives can be taken from any of the categories, including those drawn from the first two categories. The BWS minor consists of the Introduction to Black World Studies (BWS 105), one course on Africa, one course in an African-American subject and two electives. Independent Studies and Directed Readings provide the opportunity for students to work closely with individual faculty on an in-depth project of their choice.
